AHHA Quality Learning Summit & Committee Meetings

AHHA invites staff from member facilities to join us for a Quality Learning Summit with sessions on high reliability, SDOH screening, patient family engagement, and Alaskan epidemiological data. A networking lunch and reception are included to offer attendees a chance to connect with colleagues from across the state. The following day, our Long-Term Care and Nurse Leadership committees will meet individually in the morning and then together in the afternoon. The registration form will allow you to register to attend the summit and/or committee meeting/s.

AHHA can support up to three people from each small/rural facility to attend the summit - one quality leader, one LTC Committee member, and one Nurse Leadership Committee member. If your facility doesn't have a LTC or Nurse Leadership Committee member attending, we can support an additional quality leader in their place.  Further details are available on the registration form. Glenda Battey, Director of Patient Safety for Providence Health & Services, will share her expertise in high reliability organizing and culture of safety. Dr. Glenda Battey is currently the Director of Patient Safety for Providence, overseeing enterprise-wide projects focused on advancing high reliability care and conducting cause analysis. She holds a BS in Biopsychology & Community Health from Tufts University, a MA in Outdoor Adventure Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and a PhD in Exercise and Sports Psychology emphasizing Experiential Education from Oregon State University. She has been a professor, health researcher, mental health therapist, and wilderness therapist.

11:15-12:00 p.m. SDOH Screening from A to Z 

Natalie Graves, Director of Research & Implementation at Convergence Health, will explore how hospitals can maximize their SDOH screening data to improve care and outcomes at both the individual and community levels. Natalie brings more than a decade of experience leading programs to transform healthcare by leveraging quality improvement strategies and promoting peer-to-peer learning. She has collaborated with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, hospitals, accountable care organizations, state Medicaid agencies, and patient and family advocates to translate ambitious goals into concrete action plans for improvement. Her areas of expertise include social drivers of health, value-based care, payment reform, and quality improvement.

1:30-2:45 p.m. The Funfetti Approach to Patient Family Engagement 

Libby Hoy, Founder and CEO of Patient & Family Centered Care Partners, will share her Funfetti approach to family engagement that expands beyond the traditional PFAC and resident/family councils. In 2010, Libby founded PFCCpartners to create a community of patients, families and health care stakeholders committed to the shared learning of Patient & Family Centered Care practice. PFCCpartners​ also​ ​​supports the PFANetwork, inclusive of more than ​1000 Patient Family Advisors in active partnership with health systems, measure developers, policy, quality improvement teams and researchers across the country to improve the quality, safety, experience, and design of healthcare.

3:00 -4:15 p.m. Alaska Data from 1 to 1000

Anna Frick, Research Analyst for Alaska Section of Epidemiology, will take us on a journey of data visualization and surveillance. Anna is an epidemiologist with the state of Alaska, where she runs the syndromic surveillance program. She obtained her MPH from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and was a CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellow.
